ARTIST BIO
Cera Gibson is a musician, comedian, and actor based in Salt Lake City, Utah. With her unique blend of sensuality and satire, she has garnered a substantial following of over 1 million followers across social platforms. While her early music is dark and introspective, she soon recognized the power of her online persona, and infused elements of it into her writing, evident in her playful yet seductive track "Daddy." Though the song attracted controversy from men for encouraging them to “lay [their] pretty head down” on Daddy’s shoulder, Cera skillfully addressed critiques with humor and a message of male vulnerability. This further endeared her to her audience and ultimately made "Daddy" her most streamed release yet.
In 2023 Cera rose from niche, micro internet fame to world recognition, with a viral video of her brandishing a tape measure and proclaiming “I don’t think you know how big 12 inches is”. This video went on to gain nearly 1 billion worldwide views across platforms, publications, and reshares. This jolt of notoriety not only changed the scope of Cera’s career but her audience as a whole. Wading through the onslaught of misogyny that accompanied her new, largely male followers, Cera found sharing her art to be more difficult than ever. Being expected to talk about penises, when she had historically been a musician that made funny content for girls and gays, pushed Cera to reevaluate her forward trajectory. This culminated in a “culling of the herd”. Where she could have niched and become a full-time penis influencer, she doubled down and worked to build a following that was there for her, regardless of subject matter. This was ultimately successful, but the experience wasn’t forgotten, and inspired her recent single “Famous by Accident”. A powerful, even funny account of her experience post-virality, that was recently featured on Apple Music's New in Rock. Cera now looks forward to her third single of the year, Eclipse. Following in the dark, seductive footsteps of Come Down (Featured in Spotify’s Night Pop playlist), Eclipse explores the magnetic pull of old flames, using the rare event of a solar eclipse as the backdrop for a steamy, fleeting rendezvous. The track opens with haunting, stacked harmonies, reminiscent of a medieval chamber choir, but Eclipse does not shy away from sonic maximalism. As you listen, the song blooms into an arrangement of elevated harmonies, pulsing synths and distinctive drums that serve as the primary instrumentation. The final chorus holds nothing back, introducing a wailing, electric guitar that begs for another listen. This release is accompanied by a highly stylized music video that expands upon the track's allure, and sets up Eclipse as Cera’s stand out single of 2024. Eclipse is scheduled to premiere 08/23/2024 as part of the Mind the Gap music festival in Salt Lake City, Utah.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
Even with a large following, social media marketing remains a challenge. Platforms have admitted to suppressing promotional content, a particular struggle for independent artists. After years of testing, Cera has learned to work around the algorithms, using humor and storytelling to captivate viewers. Now, her videos cleverly hint at her music without direct promotion, allowing them to bypass algorithm filters, reaching a wider audience, and subtly inspiring some viewers to explore her music independently.
Here are two examples from last year - they highlight the analytics on the videos themselves, along with the impact on streams the following day.
